Day 1: Welcome to Sri Lanka

Arrive to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake, where your designated chauffer and guide will welcome you at the arrival lounge.

You'll then be transferred to your first luxurious hotel in Negombo where you can check in and relax for the remainder of the evening.

Day 2: The sacred city of Anuradhapura

In the morning, you'll set off for Anuradhapura via Chilaw. Explore the Sacred City of Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka's oldest ancient capital (4th century BC to 11th century AD) and one of the largest archaeological sites globally, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. Despite the passage of time, the ruins reveal intricate planning, elaborate constructions, and rich ornamentation from the period.

Anuradhapura also houses the sacred Bodhi Tree, a sapling of the tree under which Buddha attained enlightenment, known as the oldest historical tree in the world.

After a day of exploration, retire to your new luxury resort that will be home for the next two evenings.

Today you will climb the exciting Sigiriya Rock Fortress (Lion’s Rock), one of the most extraordinary artistic complexes of its time (477 – 498 AD). Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, this magnificent citadel allures artistic and architectural curiosity from around the globe.

Day 4: Rock caves & the city of Kandy

Start your day with a visit to the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. Dating back to the 3rd Century BC, this impressive cave complex boasts five large caves adorned with extraordinary paintings and 157 statues.

Next, journey to Kandy, named after the word “Kanda,” meaning “the Mountain.” Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988, Kandy epitomizes the style and character of ancient Sri Lankan civilization. Explore its serene lake, revered temples (including the Temple of the Tooth Relic), and well-preserved royal palaces, offering a glimpse into the country's rich heritage.

In the evening, don't miss the chance to visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, an important Buddhist pilgrimage site housing a sacred tooth relic of Buddha, revered since ancient times.

Day 5: A day at Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

Today, enjoy a relaxing visit to the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens. They are the largest and finest gardens in Sri Lanka, covering almost 150 acres and filled with an amazing variety of local and foreign tree and plant species. The history of the site dates back to the fourteenth century, when Wickramabahu III established a royal residence here.

It's time to head for the hills. You can travel this distance either by vehicle or train (just let your local expert know which you'd prefer) but, a train journey is truly a rare experience and is an adventure itself.

The train in Sri Lanka is considered one of the more comfortable modes of travel by the locals. In addition to the breathtaking scenery of the tea country and picturesque waterfalls, it is a chance for you to mingle with the local people.
